06/07/08 - Leeds B Grade
The final meet of the Yorkshire Graded Grand Prix Series saw Barracudas come away with a total of 8 medals, 7 of them to 9yr old Rhys Dodds. Rhys won 4 gold medals over the weekend starting with a 21 second pb in the 200m Butterfly finishing in 3.46.80. He then followed this with golds in the 50m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke knocking 4 secs off his pb, and 200m Breaststroke. He also took silver with a pb in the 200m Individual Medley and medalled in the 50m Breaststroke (4th) and 50m Butterfly (5th).
Megan Lazenby was the other medal winner, taking 4th place in the 11/12yrs 100m Freestyle in 1.14.33. She also swam an excellent 200m IM taking 9 seconds off her pb. Jennie Knott had some good swims with her best performances coming in the 200m Backstroke finishing in 3.09.57, and the 100m Butterfly, taking 10 seconds off her best time. Jordan Newton achieved 4 pb’s shaving 2 seconds off his 200m IM and 100m Breaststroke, 3 seconds off his 200m Backstroke and 4 seconds off his 200m Freestyle. Zoe Dodds finished with 2 pb’s in the 50m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle, and Jordan Mounsey also achieved 2 pb’s, taking 3 seconds off his 200m Breaststroke and 17 seconds off his 200m Freestyle finishing in 2.45.68.
08/06/08 - Jorvik Graded Meet
A small squad of 9 swimmers came away from York with a good collection of medals including 1 silver and 3 bronze, 1 speeding ticket and plenty of personal best times.
Top performers of the day were 11yr old Megan Lazenby and 9yr old Rhys Dodds. Megan took silver in the 100m Individual Medley, knocking 4 seconds off her PB and also medalled in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle events. She achieved 3 PB’s including another 4 seconds off her 50m Backstroke time. Rhys won the 200m Freestyle taking 4 seconds off his PB and gaining a speeding ticket in a time of 3:01.41. He then took bronze in the 100m IM and also medalled in the 50m Back, Fly and Free. 9yr old James Weldon won bronze with an impressive 3 second PB in the 50m Back and also gained a PB and a medal in the 50m Free. The other bronze went to 10yr old Georgie Robinson who swam a PB in the 50m Free. 10yr old Phoebe Riggs achieved 2 excellent PB’s in the 50m Back and Free and also medalled in the 50m Breaststroke. Other medalists were 12yr old Jennie Knott in the 50m Breast and Back, and 14yr old Jake Lazenby in the 50m Free. The final 2 members of the squad, 11yr olds Zoe Dodds and Jordan Newton, both swam well achieving 2 PB’s each.
Final stats for the day, 28 swims, 14 medals, 1 speeding ticket and 15 PB’s.
15/03/08 - Yorkshire Championships
Gala 1 at the end of February began with Rhys Dodds achieving 2 personal best times in the 9yrs 200m Freestyle. He knocked 1 second off his 200m time and his 100m split time showed a 2 second improvement. He finished 2nd in his heat with a time of 3.08.76. Amy Felgate competed in 4 events, just missing her pb’s in the 11yrs 200m IM, 200m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle. Her best placing of the weekend was 18th in the 100m Freestyle.
Gala 3 started with Zoe Dodds in the 10yrs 50m Freestyle, winning her heat in a personal best time of 36.51. Then Amy swam a good 50m Backstroke and knocked 2 seconds off her pb in the 50m Butterfly, just missing the final. The afternoon session saw Amy achieve another pb in the 50m Breaststroke, then Rhys knocked 1.5 seconds off his pb in the 50m Freestyle, winning his heat in 38.31. In the 11yrs 50m Freestyle Megan Lazenby knocked 2 seconds off her pb, finishing 3rd in her heat with a time of 32.61, just missing out on the final. Amy also achieved a pb of 31.50 to finish 4th overall and become the first Beverley swimmer to reach a Yorkshire final. In the final she swam another personal best time, and in a close race was just edged out of the medals finishing 5th in 31.32.
